Doggie Basics Classes


Puppy Class

Puppy Class is a four-week class for puppies ages 8 weeks to 6 months old.  This class focuses on the socialization — both the dog-to-dog and dog-to-human socialization — and on consistent and positive reinforcement during training.  This class is the beginning training for young puppies and establishes the bond between the owner and puppy.  During this class the owner will receive advice on puppy rearing, housebreaking, grooming, and socialization.  The puppy will be introduced to the basics of social manners: sit, down, stay, place, and come commands.

Requisites for the class:  6’ leash (NO Retractable leashes), a regular collar, and three different types of soft treats (one being a “high value” treat (i.e., a treat the dog really loves).

Foundations Class

This is a four-week class for dogs who are 6 months and older.  In this class the emphasis is on consistent and positive reinforcement training.  In this class the owner and dog will be introduced to the foundational skills of a well-mannered dog:  sit, down, stay, place, come, watch me, and walking on a loose lead.

Requisites for the class:  6’ leash (NO Retractable leashes), a regular collar, and three different types of soft treats (one being a “high value” treat (i.e., a treat the dog really loves)).

Household Manners Class

This is a four-week class for dogs who have completed either the Puppy Class or the Foundations Class.  The emphasis of this class is on consistent and positive reinforcement training with the focus on sharpening the foundational skills learned in Puppy Class or Foundations Class.  In this class the students will continue develop their foundational skills of walking on a loose lead, sit stay, down stay, wait, and come.  Dogs are also introduced to the stand/stay, distractions, interacting with stranger, and being left with a stranger for a short period of time.

Requisites for the class:  6’ leash (NO Retractable leashes), a regular collar, and three different types of soft treats (one being a “high value” treat (i.e., a treat the dog really loves)).

Prerequisite:  Puppy Class, Foundations Class, or permission of the class instructor.

Click A Trick (1 & 2)

These are four-week courses that teach various tricks for your dog to learn. Click A Trick 1 class will (e.g., “give paw,” “touch,” “wave bye-bye,” etc.) cover more basic tricks and Click A Trick 2 will cover more advance/complex tricks (e.g., weave through your legs, play soccer, spin, etc.). This is a great and fun way to continue your dog’s training in a fun manner.

Prerequisite: Puppy Class, Foundations Class. Pet owners need to understand the use/value of the clicker and their dogs need to know how to sit and down consistently.

CGC(Canine Good Citizen) Prep

During this six-week class, students will be introduced to the ten behaviors on which their dog can be assessed to achieve their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. Skills focus on obedience, handling crowds, and manners to prove that they are a good member of society. The class will conclude with the dogs experiencing a mock CGC test. NOTE: Once class is complete, CLErun will coordinate with an AKC CGC Evaluator to offer the official CGC assessment in order for dogs to achieve their certification and title.

Requirements: 3 different kinds of treats, a regular collar and leash (no retractable leashes), and completion of Beginning Obedience class or permission of the class instructor.
